Are you getting ready for Halloween with the kids? Maybe you’re hosting a party! These jello worms will be a hit and they’re fun to make!
Jo, our youngest has been begging all year to make these! Not kidding. She saw a video from somewhere and got the idea. Honestly, it seemed like a lot of work to me…to pour jello in straws!?
However, after doing a little bit of research and trial, we discovered that you don’t have to pour the jello directly into the straws. Yes, it helps, but the straws will suck up the jello from the bottom as well. I’m sure there’s some scientific reason behind this, but I didn’t take the time to research, so if you want too…..more power to you!
Jello Worms
You will need:
Glass mason jar, or something to hold the straws
Bendable straws (you can use however many you want. we used enough to fill the jar
1 3oz box cherry jello
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup unflavored gelatin powder
3 Cups water
Pour the water, cherry jello, and milk into a saucepan. Heat the mixture until it begins to boil.
Add the unflavored gelatin powder. Stirring while slowly pouring to prevent any lumps from forming.
Cool the mixture in the fridge for about 30 minutes
Fill the jar with straws while the mixture is cooling.
Once the mixture is cool, begin pouring it into the straws. Again, don’t stress about trying to get the jello directly into the straws. They will fill from the bottom up as well.
Place the jar in the fridge for 24 hours.
Run hot water over the bottom of the jar to loosen the mixture. You may need to run a knife around the side. Pull apart the straws and run them under hot water. Squeeze the end of the straw to gently push the worm out from the top to the bottom.
Place them in a bowl for your ghosts…I mean guests to enjoy!
These are so fun!!!! Your kids will love them. Plus, I love putting fun things in my kids’ lunchboxes. They will love these slithery surprise!
