Do you need a quick and fun activity to do with your kids? Maybe your looking for a fun sensory activity? This Pumpkin Pie Playdough is perfect for both and your kids won’t be the only ones enjoying themselves.
We whipped up a batch of this one day while I was babysitting for a neighbor girl. She is the same age as Jo, our youngest, and just happens to be her best friend. I babysat her until she was around one and since her parents live right around the corner from us…well, more like a 1/2 mile after the corner, but in the country that’s just about as close to “around the corner” as you can get. Anyway, since I started this preschool gig last year when Jo went off to Kindergarten, I still get the same breaks as my kids, which is AMAZING, even though I really miss being home full time! So, whenever there is a snow day, two-hour delay, or a break from school, Mo comes to our house and she always asks to do a craft, science experiment, or bake chocolate chip cookies! This particular day I decided to make Pumpkin Pie Playdough with them and they loved it!
This recipe makes a big enough batch that we didn’t need to double it or anything. There was plenty to divide between the 4 girls, but if only one person was making it then they would have a lot to play with which just adds to the fun!
Pumpkin Pie Playdough
You will need:
1 1/2 Cups flour
3/4 Cup salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1 Tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 1/2 Cups water
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
Orange food coloring or, if you don’t have orange then red and yellow. Add as many drops until you reach the desired orange color.
Add all the ingredients to a medium sauce pan and mix well. Add food coloring as desiered.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 5 minutes. Once it starts to form a ball, flip it over in the pan, flatten out, then flip over again and repeat the process until it’s no longer sticky.
Remove from heat and knead a few more times. You may need to add a touch more flour depending on the texture. Once it is cool, it’s ready to play with. It should smell just like pumpkin pie!
I hope your kids enjoy making this Pumpkin Pie Playdough as much as mine did!
